My inspiration as a Silk Painter comes primarily from my love of colour and the fantastic combination of vibrant silk paints on beautiful tactile silk. The natural world, the arts, my home and garden in the Staffordshire Moorlands all provide a rich source for my designs of flowers, leaves, masks, celtic, abstract patterns and many more. As a designer/maker I employ the serti technique of silk painting to create scarves, cushions, ties, bags, greetings cards and small gifts. For each scarf or cushion I hand draw my design onto stretched white habotai pure silk and when the outliner is dry paint using brushes and silk paint. I finish the process by fixing the painted silk, with heat, making most items washable with care and hand hem the scarves. An increasing amount of my work is by commission and enquiries are most welcome. I also give talks and workshops for groups on silk painting.
